Living in the Northwest for most of my life, I can't remember a time when I didn't want to capture its beauty with my art. Graduating during the 50s, a career in art was unacceptable to my blue collar family. My education was to complete high school and a year of business school. Winning $1000 at a county fair changed the plan so I entered college, minoring in art. When I met my husband, we were both juniors so I went to work while he completed his studies. After he graduated and found employment, we had three chidren. I ground great joy in my children and none in the housework and I haven't changed. I yearned to paint so I attended art classes at a junior college whenever I could. After a year painting on one painting, my oils instructor suggested I try watercolors. Eventually I graduated from Evergreen State College, divorced and got a "real job as a social worker." After 20+ years, I retired and started selling my work at local markets and craft fairs. I'm still attending workshops but I also teach watercolors. My watercolor classes, original works, cards an dprints can be found at Trail's End ArtAssociation Gallery in Gearhart, Oregon. |
